Kathmandu, 20 May: The Mahakali Irrigation Project that was supposed to be completed within 16 years has been lingered for years owing to very slow pace of work. The 152 kilometre -long irrigation project’s only 13 kilometre work so far has been completed in 10 years time and the initial cost that was estimated to be to the tune of Rs15 billion has reached Rs 35 billion, reports Rajdhani daily.
Two decades ago Nepal and India had inked an agreement on construction of a canal under the Mahakali River Integrated Development. If the pace of construction continues in the same speed as of now, it will take 120 years to complete the project.
