Prachanda claims his life under threat

By Our Reporter
At a time when the government’s decision to impose a ban on the Netra Bikram Chand-led communist party has drawn mixed reactions from public, chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal and former rebel leader Pushpa Kamla Dahal had backed the decision sating that men were mobilised by Chand to kill him.
Former Prime Minister Dahal said that Biplav-led group had planned to murder him.
Speaking at a Martyrs family felicitation programme organised by the Young Communist League (YCL) at the Persihdanda-based party office on Thursday he said that he was informed by the government that Chand had mobilised cadres to kill him.
Dahal, who had led similar violent activities from 1996 to 2006 killing 17,000 Nepalis, said,” He pitied Chand group for their attempts to take his life.”
Chand was one of the leaders groomed by Dahal during the decade long violence waged by him.
He recalled the past 10 years of ‘People’s War’ and said that he was made ‘Prachanda’ by the Nepali people.
He said that if anybody wanted to be Prachanda only by imitating and copying him then that would be only a day-dream. “Such illusion does not take anybody to anywhere,” he said.
Dahal argued that the present situation was different from the situation of 1996 when his party had launched the People’s War and urged his former cadre to analyse the situation and rethink their activities.
