The Nepali Congress that has been mired by factionalism had finally agreed to constitute its work execution committee after party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel agreed to divide the members of the committee between them during a meeting held at the Budhanilkantha residence of Deuba.
However, the meeting of the work execution committee called for Saturday could not convene and was postponed for an indefinite time.
Sources said that the meeting was postponed at the 11th hour when another leader Krishna Sitaula also sought his share in the work execution committee.
However, vice president Bimalendra Nidhi said the meeting was postponed when names of the leaders to be included in the committee were not finalised.
Party chief Deuba had called the meeting to constitute the work execution committee. The committee is a powerful body after the central working committee.
Deuba had agreed to give 40 per cent seats in the 29-member work execution committee. During the meeting, the two leaders agreed on principle to form the committee. But the meeting was postponed for no apparent reason.
