KMC working to bring bus ad under tax net

By Our Reporter
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has said that it has been preparing to bring the transit advertising (advertisements placed in the means of public transportation) in the tax net.
Once the KMC Vehicle and Transport Management Act-2075 will be enacted, the public transportation entrepreneurs and operators of the city are obliged to get approval from the city authority to place any advertisement in their vehicles, said KMC.
The 4th Municipal Assembly Convention held here on Sunday approved the draft relating to the Act.
The Act will be implemented in a full fledge after its authentication within 15 days and published in local gazette, said KMC Information Officer Basanta Acharya.
The public transportation could place advertisement, but the city authority would decide what sorts of advertisement would be allowed to place in the public vehicles, he added.
“Once the Act comes into effect, the public vehicles will not be allowed placing advertisements of tobacco products, offensive and vulgar advertisements and such advertisements that are against the social values,” said Acharya.
KMC spokesperson Ishwor Man Dangol informed that the Act has been introduced to ensure easy and comfortable access of urban transportation to the general public.
