Kathmandu, 19 June: The temperature was recorded at 29 degree Celsius at 12 noon in sunny Kathmandu. Thousands of people, specially, from the Newar community gathered at the Maitighar Mandala undermining the temperature to protest the government proposed Guthi bill. Newars from Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts arrived at Maitighar Mandala protested the government plan of introducing new Guthi system replacing traditional Guthi mechanism.
They warned to finish the government if tried to impose the bill which would finish their identity, culture and tradition. They demanded to scrap the bill immediately.
The government, considering the ongoing protest against the bill, has taken back the bill for necessary amendment. However, the protesters have demanded to scrap it instead of amendment.
The Newar community believes that the Bill is prepared to finish their identity, whereas, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli sees there is the hand of regressive elements who are active in defusing federalism, secularism and republicanism.
On Tuesday evening, Oli, addressing a press conference alleged hands of regressive elements on the protest.
