“Former King’s role needed”

Kathmandu, 23 May: Indian religious leader Jagatguru Shaknaracharya Pujyapad Swami Sri Nischalananda Saraswati Maharaj has said that religious and cultural sectors should seek former King Gyanendra’s role to preserve these sectors.

Addressing a press conference in Birgunj on Tuesday, Shankaracharya said that none of the religions was discriminated during the kings’ rule in Nepal, however, after removal of the kingship in the country, attack on Hindu religion has been intensified, reports Annapurna Post daily.

He said that Westerners are encroaching Hindu religion. Christians are campaigning against the Hindu religion with the plan of bringing down Hindu religion into minority.

He also informed that during his meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, he had expressed worry on the state of Hindu religion.

On Monday, Shankaracharya met with the former King in Birgunj and expressed sorrow on the plight of Hindu religion in Nepal, he said.
