Ex-DPM Adhikari passes away

Three days after the demise of Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Rabindra Adhikari, the nation lost senior communist leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Bharatmohan Adhikari.
Adhikari, who had introduced the social allowance for the senior citizens in 1994, died on Saturday night at the age of 82 while undergoing treatment.
He was cremated with state honour on Sunday in Kathmandu.
Hundreds of people observed silence as Adhikari’s daughters Luna, Lija and Lima lit the funeral pyre on the banks of the Bagmati River.
Before his funeral pyre was lit, a guard of honour was presented to him by Armed Police Force, who also played the national anthem in honour of late Adhikari
His spouse Sabita Adhikari, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ishwar Pokharel, CPN’s General Secretary Bishnu Paudel, Nepali Congress leader and former finance minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, former minister Dr. Minendra Rijal, CPN leader Janardhan Sharma, several party cadres, leaders and general public reached Pashupati Aryaghat to pay last tribute to the late leader.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held at the Prime Minister’s official residence had decided to conduct final rites of late Adhikari with the State honour. The thirteen-day mourning ritual of late Adhikari will be performed by his daughters, a family source informed.
Ailing Adhikari had been suffering from asthma and pulmonary disease for a long time.
