Envoy Lucky Sherpa sacked

By Our Reporter
The government has finally sacked Nepal’s ambassador to Australia Lucky Sherpa for her alleged involvement in human trafficking. A Cabinet meeting held on Monday sacked Sherpa as well as Chief of National Investigation Department Dilip Regmi.
Sherpa was summoned after she was dragged into controversy from her former driver Wongchhu Sherpa, who had accused her and her husband of human trafficking saying he had collected money for them from some people promising them safe passage to Australia. He said he flew to Australia with Ambassador Sherpa on 9 June 2017, paying a hefty money to her.
Earlier, a committee was formed to investigate into the case by the Foreign Ministry. However, the committee had given her a clean chit.
But the government sacked her.
Before deciding to sack her, Prime Minister K P Oli and CPN chair Pushpa Kamala Dahal had met and decided to sack her.
Sherpa was appointed ambassador during PM Oli’s first term in 2015-16. She was proposed as ambassador by the then Maoist Centre chief Dahal and accepted by the then CPN-UML led by Oli.
