Dr Govinda KC’s condition critical, talks team formed

By Our Reporter
The health condition of Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging hunger strike in Jumla since July 30, has further deteriorated since Saturday night. Medics involved in his treatment at the Jumla based-Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS), where the anti-corruption crusader has been on a hunger strike, said he is suffering from low blood pressure, respiratory problems and irregular heartbeats. He also has cough and throat ache due to infection.
However, the government in Kathmandu was least bothered to address his demands. Prime Minister Oli and those who want to open medical colleges for commercial purposes have been arrogant to KC’s strike. PM Oli who once threatened to take action against KC was compelled to form a team to hold talks with Dr. KC on Monday.  A Cabinet meeting on Monday formed the committee.
The Nepali Congress has been obstructing the House businesses while the civil society has been organising rallies demanding that life of Dr KC should be saved.  The NC demanded that the government should not change any provision included in the Medical Education Ordinance in the new bill.
Finally, the government bowed before Dr KC and formed a three-member committee comprising of Education Secretary and joint secretaries of the ministries of health and home affairs.
