In response to the criticism from the officials of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank for the increasing politicization in the development works funded by them the concerned officials involved in implementing the development projects running with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have expressed commitments to avoid negligence in the assigned job.
The stakeholders and the responsible officials made such commitment at a trilateral review meeting organized to discuss the challenges and future plans of the development projects run by the government, ADB and the joint coordination in different parts of the country.
The officials have admitted that the ADB-funded projects have not taken speed as expected though some progress is visible in the recent days, Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported. They have also promised to expedite their activeness in the implementation level by correcting the mistakes and learning from the past.
Deputy Director General of ADB for South Asia Region Dibesh Sharan said that frequent changes of the project chiefs has brought some complexities in the implementation level and suggested to depute the project chief at least for three years.
On the occasion, Chief of International Economic Assistance Coordination Division of the Ministry of Finance, Baikuntha Aryal, made commitment for facilitating role of the ministry to expedite the development projects.
During the programme, Country Director of ADB, Kenichi Yokoyama, said that projects of human resource, energy and urban-centric are challenging and stressed the government’s active role to minimize such problems.
