Breakthrough in Bheri Babai irrigation tunnel

A breakthrough was made in the tunnel of National Pride Project Bheri-Babahi Diversion Multi-Purpose Project on Tuesday.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced the breakthrough of the tunnel of the project by pressing a switch at Chiple of Bheriganga Municipality Ward No. 11, Surkhet today.
After 10 minutes of pressing the button by the Prime Minister, the TBM machine had dig the tunnel for the last time for making the breakthrough in the tunnel.
PM Oli had reached Surkhet taking ministers, Chinese officials and US ambassadors for the formal announcement of the breakthrough in one of the national pride projects.
Prime Minister expressed happiness for the breakthrough of the tunnel one year before the targeted time by using new technology. The TBM machine that dug tunnel was new in Nepal.
Congratulating every one for the early breakthrough of tunnel, the Prime Minister said that it was the matter of happiness that the water being waste in the river was going to be utilise for the irrigation and hydroelectricity redevelopment.

Minister for Energy, Water Resource and Irrigation said that early completion of tunnel had been accomplished due to modern American technology and Chinese contractors.

The Bheri-Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project has completed tunnel construction in 17 months, a year of the targeted time.
The tunnel construction was commenced in November 2017. The 12.2 km long tunnel cost about Rs. 10.57 billion. The project will be completed in the next four years.
US Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry and said that the construction of the tunnel was possible in short period due to the tunnel boring machine of American technology, Chinese contractor sand the strong willpower of Nepalis.
Chairperson of China Railway International Group Chen Shiping said that since the world’s biggest and credible construction company had built the tunnel, it would show other paths of development in the country.
