By Our Reporter
Here is bad news for the momo fans as well as those who regularly enjoy meats! The meats that land in your kitchen are not healthy, according to findings of the market inspection and monitoring team led by  Minister for Commerce and Supplies  Ganesh Man Pun
The team found two slaughterhouses of Kathmandu supplying rotten, maggot-infested buffalo meat in the market.
During a surprise inspection, the team discovered a huge amount of maggot-infested buffalo meat in Moj Meat Centre, Satungal.
The monitoring team though nabbed Sheikh Mohammad, the owner of the slaughter house and made him sign a paper requiring him to safely dispose the rotten meat and maintain cleanliness standards in the slaughterhouse within three days, he might not follow the instruction as he knows well that the monitoring team will not reach his slaughter house for many months.
An official at the Department of Commerce and Supply Management said that the meat shop and slaughterhouse would be sealed after Mohammad buries the meat and vacates the facility.
Likewise, the team in Human Community Slaughterhouse, Teku, found meat emitting foul odour.
A meat sample of this slaughter house was sent to the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control for lab test. If any defect or disease is found in the meat upon examination, the inspector may partially or completely prohibit the sale or distribution of such meat as per the Animal Slaughterhouse and Meat Inspection Act-1999.
The inspection team earlier monitored the vegetable markets of Kathmandu and found that some of the traders were supplying unhealthy vegetables in the market.  The team also sealed four water processing factories of Matatirtha after finding that the water they were supplying was not healthy.
