Apex Court favours Sumargi

Kathmandu, 23 May: The Supreme Court of Nepal has issued a stay order in favour of controversial businessman Ajayaraj Sumargi and hence barred the government from collecting revenue from his company Nepal Satellite Telecom.

The Government of Nepal had fixed Rs 4 billion 31 million tax to his company for evading capital gains. Acting promptly upon a writ filed by Sumargi the Supreme Court Justice Bam Kumar Shrestha barred the government from collecting outstanding dues, reports Kantipur daily.

Former Finance Secretary Rameshwor Khanal has openly said that Supreme Court has passed a wrong verdict, it shows connection between Sumargi and the justice Bam, the paper has stated.
