By Our Reporter The youths in Kathmandu have been expressing their ire against the leaders of the old parties including Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli by chanting slogans for Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah and against PM Oli. When on the day of Indrajatra, youth, mostly women who participated in the festival by wearing T-shirts with printed pictures of Balen, the police detained them throughout the day and released them in the evening after the leaders including PM Oli returned. However, Balen did not attend the Indrajatra festival. Had he attended it, the youth would have chanted slogans like 'Balen, Balen' which would have humiliated Oli and others. Balen supporters were held only to avoid the situation. However, during a concert organised at the King's Way on Constitution Day, the Balen supporters chanted slogans against Oli and for Balen. Obviously, the scenes, specially the events attended by Balen, clearly suggest the growing unpopularity of the mainstream leaders. The situation worsened further when Oli started criticising Balen in public forums. The leaders need to learn a lesson from those who laud Balen and correct them, otherwise, leaders may not be able to attend public functions in Kathmandu.
