It has been over two months since KP Sharma Oli assumed the Office of the Prime Minister in Nepal. But surprisingly, both India and China have not invited him for a visit. In the past, both the neighbouirng countries used to invite the new prime minister of Nepal to visit their country in their congratulatory messages immediately after a new PM assumed office in Nepal or by sending invitations through ministers. At times, the new prime minister of Nepal used to be unable to decide as to which country (India or China) he should visit first as they used to get invitations from the two countries simultaneously. When Pushpa Kamal Dahal in 2008 visited China first, India got irked and Dahal's government collapsed in nine months. Thereafter, most prime ministers first embarked on an official visit to India, with only Shushil Koirala and Jhalanath Khanal being exceptions. They did not pay official visit to India while serving as PM in Nepal although Koirala attended the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi in 2014.
But this time, neither India nor China invited Oli, raising suspicions whether both the neighbours are unhappy with Oli's appointment as Prime Minister in Nepal. Although Oli has no good relations with the Indian establishment, China should have invited him.
Instead, PM Oli has, of late, started criticising India for not receiving the EPG report.
While addressing the Parliament on Monday, Oli said Nepal wants good neighbours, a week ago while unveiling the book of Kamal Thapa, Oli said India should have accepted the EPG report.
It is noteworthy to mention here that India has been unhappy with Oli after he launched a new map of Nepal when he was leading the government in 2020.
