By Our Reporter A meeting of the Constitutional Council has recommended Prakash Man Singh Raut, senior most justice of the Supreme Court, for appointment as the next Chief Justice. The meeting chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli recommended Raut’s name. If confirmed by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, Raut will be succeeding Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha after he retires on October 6. Indira Rana Magar, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and a member of the constitutional council said the tradition of recommending the senior-most judge has been maintained this time as well. The judicial council had sent a name of eight sc justice, all with a minimum of three years' experience , for consideration for the top post. However, earlier Rana objected to the proposal to recommend Raut citing a case in which Raut was said to have abused his spouse. But on Monday, she agreed with Raut's name.
