Kathmandu, August 24: Bhakta Bahadur Koirala, 96, is known as a bold and honest administrator in Nepal's civil service. Koirala, who became the chief district officer in different districts, also became the Home Secretary and later became the chair of the Royal Commission constituted by King Gyanendra to investigate the corruption cases when the latter assumed the executive power. At a function organized today, the book was formally released. During the book-release ceremony, the author shared his experiences of the service period. The author, who is from Ilam, joined the government service after his parents gave permission.     The book consists of excerpts of important events that the author had written in his diary during his service tenure of 35 years. The author’s youngest son Dr Janak Koirala compiled the text in the diary, according to the author. A different test about Nepal’s geography and, the underdeveloped situation of the remote districts during the days when he was deployed as the chief district officer that the author has shared in the book. Similarly, the author has described different events and actions he had taken when he was the in-charge of the district administration. One of the events he described is the plane hijack by the Nepali Congress activists under the command of the late Girija Prasad Koirala from Biratnagar to Farbesgunj, India. The aircraft hijack intended to loot the cash that was being transferred to Kathmandu from Biratnagar. During that time, Koirala was the chief district officer of the Morang district. As the author has given the title, "Yug Parivartanko Sakchi" (Witness of the Change), indeed, it gives glimpses of many historical events and developments, thus far, the book is interesting to read.
