Contradicting the country’s laws and regulations, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has remarked that teachers while in service should be allowed to do politics. Earlier, Sumana Shrestha, the education minister in the previous government, had restricted teachers from being affiliated with different political parties and being active in politics. Rejecting such a decision by the previous education minister, PM Oli said that the teachers played a significant role in the political and social change in the country, thus, they should be allowed to remain active in politics. Oli made such a remark on Saturday while addressing the 23rd national council of the National Teachers’ Organisation, affiliated with the UML.
Education is the mirror of a nation. If the education sector is destroyed, the nation will be destroyed. Unfortunately, all the sectors, including education and even civil service have been heavily politicized in Nepal. As a result, they have become non-functional. Somehow, the previous education minister tried to clean the political garbage in the educational institutions, however, arrogant and visionless PM Oli has decided to alter the previous decision of the government. As the political parties are losing public credibility, they are using students, teachers, and bureaucrats, among others, as their offensive force while launching agitation. The party leaders are not concerned about the standard of education and also impartial bureaucracy.
Every day, a large number of students are going abroad for their further education. There are no employment opportunities within the country, therefore, youths are going abroad for dirty jobs. The political leaders are not concerned about creating job opportunities within the country. It has become clear that when we trust those non-visionary political leaders, the country and the people will suffer a lot.
This is not the first time that K.P. Oli has become the Prime Minister. Also, the prime minister in waiting, Sher Bahadur Deuba is an experienced leader who already become the PM for the fourth time and waiting to become the PM for the fifth time. However, they are never going to correct their mistakes, and neither they will learn about good or bad things for the country. Unfortunately, we trust them always. This is the reason that they have become arrogant and anarchist. Nevertheless, we, the voters, are committing blunder by electing them again and again.
