Kathmandu, 17 November: Fuwad Thowfeek, Chief Election Commissioner of Maldives arrived in Kathmandu to supervise the elections of the House of Representatives and the Provincial Assemblies on 20 November. Election Commission’s Joint Secretary Bishwaprasad Aryal welcomed him at Tribhuvan International Airport upon his arrival. Kamal Bhattarai, Co-Spokesperson of the Commission has informed that Thowfeek is leading a two-member delegation that arrived here at the invitation of the Election Commission. In the Maldives, the Chief Commissioner is called the Chairman of the Election Commission. Chief Election Commissioner of India and President of the Association of World Electoral Bodies Rajiv Kumar, Chief Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal from Bangladesh, and Chief Commissioner Sonam Topge of Bhutan are also coming from neighbouring countries to monitor the voting at the invitation of the Commission. Commissioners from Sri Lanka and South Korea are coming to monitor the polls. Co-spokesperson Bhattarai informed that they will arrive tomorrow.
