By Nirmal P. Acharya Since the MCC stipulates that the Nepalese government cannot participate in its management, the Nepalese people must assume the management responsibility of the MCC. The MCC that was forced by the US is in the land of Nepal and the land of Nepal belongs to the Nepalese people and our own interests can only be safeguarded by ourselves rather than others. Sovereignty is considered to be a country’s fundamental principle but when the government gives up its sovereignty under American pressure, subsequently the people will have to stand up for it. But one might wonder, how can the people safeguard their sovereignty when they have no power, no guns and no money? Well, no, we might not have those things. But we have eyes, ears, mouths and most importantly hearts filled with love for this country, and we can play the role of safeguarding sovereignty by persistently speaking out our observations and thoughts on the MCC. So, as a relatively weak country, is there any other way out for Nepal besides conceding to American hegemony? In order to answer this question, I would like to propose the establishment of an MCC Research Institute for the whole of Nepali society. By tracking the progress of the MCC, we can explore the way for Nepal to survive and develop under the American hegemony and build Nepal's national self-confidence in the process of seeking our own path. As the only hegemon in the world, it is the natural nature of the US to bully weak countries. However, although Nepal is small and weak, it also has its own natural attribute, which is to seek survival and development. One magnificent fall morning, I joined the crowd watching the sunrise over Mount Machhapuchhre, wrapped in a thick jacket yet shivering with cold. When the golden rays of the sun gave a beautiful colour to the mountain I knew it was the most precious gold to be found on earth but then all of a sudden MCC crossed my mind. Nonetheless, Nepal was born with a heavenly place in this world and even the MCC can never shake it. A night can never defeat the sunrise.
