
Kathmandu, 23 October: Former MP Maiyadevi Shrestha passed away on Saturday night. She was 94. Active in Congress politics, she was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Gorkha-2 in the 1992 election. Chairman of Chitwan Congress Rajeshwar Khanal informed that Shrestha passed away last night around 1:15.
In 1946, Shrestha joined the then Nepali National Congress from BP Koirala and was a member of the District Working Committee of the Nepali Congress Chitwan for 13 years. She wanted to stand for election in the 15th general election. After the party picked Bishwabandhu Thapa, she revolted and filed as an independent candidate, later she supported Thapa at the request of BP Koirala.
