Foreign Minister says the government has already sent letter to the US rejecting SPP
Kathmandu, 29 July: Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka informed the House today that the government has sent a letter to the US government for not moving forward on the Strategic Partnership Programme (SPP) on 25 July.
Addressing Parliament today, Minister Khadka said that Nepal’s decision not to accept SPP has been informed to the US government through the diplomatic channel.
It took some time to write the letter due to the internal consultations, he said.
The cabinet meeting had decided not to accept the SPP one month ago. However, the government had not sent a formal letter to the US government informing the government decision.
Minister Khadka said to Parliament that the government has clarified its opinion on SPP. Khadka also claimed that the government is capable of maintaining a balanced and independent foreign policy.
