Kathmandu, 14 July: A serious question of disqualification has been raised in the House of Representatives against Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari of Nepal Rastra Bank. Ruling party lawmakers have demanded an investigation into the governor, accusing him of being a cadre of the main opposition CPN-UML.
It has been claimed that Adhikari is a member of the CPN (UML)'s economic and planning department. Speaking in the meeting, CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker Rekha Sharma argued that the provision that an individual associated with any party should not be appointed the Governor in contravention of the existing laws, the Bank's Act and Regulations.
She demanded an investigation in this connection and action against both sides- the side making the appointment and the side who got appointed. The UML's latest intra-party directive states that M Adhikari (Khotang) has been appointed as the member of the CPN (UML) economic and planning department.
