The photograph of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayor Balendra Shah meeting with President Bidya Devi Bhandari has become viral. Shah was speaking and President Bhandari is seen listening. The distance between the President and Shah is seen quite far, which is odd to notice.

Many times, this scribe had the opportunity to meet with the Nepali kings – earlier with King Birendra and later with King Gyanendra. The distance between the King and me was just a working table between us. Perhaps, others, who met the kings, have also had the same experience.
These days, we can see the then King freely roaming around Kathmandu streets self-driving a car without any security. Unfortunately, when the President comes out of the Shittal Niwas, the traffic will halt before half an hour of the President’s SABARI and half an hour after the SABARI. Commoners have even warned to violet such a tradition.
Perhaps, to see the day, we had removed the institution of monarchy!
University in Girija Prasad’s name
Nepal’s queen mothers, two queens of King Tribhuvan had sold their valuable ornaments for establishing the Tribhuvan University.
Our minister Dilendra Prasad Badu is advocating for establishing another university in the name of the late Girija Prasad Koirala. Who is going to sell the personal property and ornaments for establishing the university?
Perhaps, the South Block may manage the fund!
Debt burden
Our debt burden, according to a government report is 18.55 trillion rupees and the government needs to manage 1 trillion rupees to pay back the debt every year. In the past five years, the debt amount has increased by double. Moreover, in the coming fiscal year, the government has decided to take additional 4.98 trillion rupees as debt. How long can the government retain our economy by managing its general sector expenditure by taking foreign and domestic debts?
QUOTES OF THE WEEK
- We have seen Russia's Leninism, China's Maoism, Marxism and many other ideologies in Nepal. Now, let’s try for Sri Lanka-ism (the Sri Lankan way of treating the leaders)!

- How could such an unworthy decision for providing facilities to former VIPs come at a time when the economy is in crisis, revenue is unable to bear government expenditure and people's lives are being made difficult?
It would be okay for ex-VIPs to exclude the facility themselves.
Otherwise, the people will call everyone concerned 'robbers'!

- What will happen after the Nepali Congress abandons its main mantra "BP's socialism" and adopts "Binod Chaudhary's socialism" instead, and the affiliation with extreme left!
I wonder who is the real threat to democracy and the constitution, this coalition or the erstwhile Oli?
Binod Sijapati
- This electricity issue is getting ridiculous. Nepal is going to sell electricity when parts of Kathmandu haven't had electricity for several days. Every day, they cut off power for six to eight hours during prime working hours.

- Looking at the growing corruption and rampant previsions in the country, it seems that the Auditor General's Office and the Commission for Investigation on Abuse of Authority should be abolished immediately.

- In just 11 months, the country has imported rice worth Rs 27 billion. In 1985, the country had exported rice worth 13 million US dollars, or 59,000 metric tonnes. Who should be responsible for such an adverse picture?
Aarbesh Aryal
- There is no fertilizer at the time of planting paddy. When there is no fertilizer, production will decrease and import of rice will increase. The farmer will be unwell. Let's observe the Paddy Day by displaying the image of the smiling leaders, who cares about tomorrow?

- An alternative to a corrupt government -- a more corrupt government! One shouts at the other, 'We will show you how to run the government.'
That is, learn from us how to adjust the setting and ignore the protests of the citizens.
Has the country become a training ground for open corruption?
Sharad Raj Pathak
- Nepali Congress leaders, activists, supporters, please do not even utter the word "morality". Even if a fallen group like you uttered that word, the word would be considered unholy. You don't have to explain and justify why you lead the government.
