Government deceiving Nepali labourers Kathmandu, 13 June: In the name of rescuing Nepali people facing crisis in foreign countries, the government has planned to collect many times more price from them on airfare. Nepalis, who have lost their job due to the coranavirus pandemic, are being deceived as the government has fixed three times more airfare. The government has allowed two international airlines -- Nepal Airlines and Himalayan Airlines -- to operate charter flights to rescue Nepalis abroad. The Foreign Labourers Welfare Fund holds above six billion rupees that collected from those oversees employees but the labourers in crisis have unable to get any relief from the fund. Normally, the airfare for Malaysia is 20 thousand rupees, for which, now the airfare is set at 465 US$, which comes 55 thousand rupees. The government has fixed 490 US$ for Bahrain, which comes 58 thousand three hundred rupees. In normal time, the airfare used to be 23 thousand rupees. Achyut Guragain, chairman, Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents, remarks that charter flights are expensive, however, not more than the double fare. Some Nepali ambassadors abroad, viewing expensive rate quoted by Nepali airlines, had suggested to open international flights for ten days. The government didn’t respond their advice. The Nepal Embassy in Oman, refusing expensive airfare, has decided to charter Salam Air aircraft at cheap price to carry Nepali labourers there. The Nepal government has fixed 460 US$ per person, which comes 54 thousand 40 rupees. The Nepal Embassy in Oman has prepared to send Nepalis at 299 US$, which is just 34 thousand rupees.
