European missions condemn caste based violence in Rukum Kathmandu, 4 June: The EU Delegation to Nepal, along with the European missions in Kathmandu, have condemned the tragic violent incident in Soti village of Chaurjahari Municipality, Rukum (Karnali Province) in the third week of May. "This act of violence took place on the eve of the 9th anniversary of the passing by the legislative Parliament of the Caste Based Discrimination and Untouchability (Offence and Punishment) Act 2011," the European missions have reacted. "The Government of Nepal, as a party to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, has undertaken to combat caste-based discrimination. We support the efforts undertaken to conduct a fair investigation, which will reveal the truth of this tragic event, and lead to action to ensure justice and reparations for the victims and their families," it is stated in a statement issued on Wednesday.
