By Our Reporter Participants of a roundtable discussion on “Right to Self Determination for the People of Jammu Kashmir”, organised by the Pakistan Embassy here on Sunday remarked that permanent solution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue could be a free and fair plebiscite participated by the people there. The programme was attended by over twenty five journalists, writers, TV anchors and analysts as well as representatives of human rights organizations. Ambassador Mazhar Javed recollected the genesis of the dispute and the adoption of UNSC resolutions promising the people of Jammu and Kashmir their right to self determination. He said that non-implementation of these resolutions had subjected several generations of the people of IOJ & K to grave sufferings and challenged the peace and stability of the region. "Let the world community fulfill their responsibility for the rights of the people in Jammu Kashmir", the ambassador said. Participants of the programme expressed serious concern on the worsening human rights situation in Kashmir resulting from the five month old clamp down on millions of people in the occupied territory. The programme concluded with an elaborate Question-Answer session in which several journalists and analysts asked questions about the history, human rights dimension and the future of the disputed territory, to which the Ambassador responded. The participants thanked the Embassy for organizing the event. Messages of the President, Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Pakistan on Kashmiris’ Right to Self Determination were read out. Pakistan President Arif Alvi said that the current situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ &K) is the worst in recent history where people have been deprived of their fundamental rights, including rights to life, food, health, freedom of expression and assembly as well and self-determination. Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Pakistan’s strong and steadfast moral, political and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people will continue till the realization of their inalienable right of self determination. Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Quraishi said that India's illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019 are aimed at altering the disputed status of IOJ &K and bringing about demographic changes to undermine the right to self-determination of the Kashmiris.
