TIA closed for 14 hour

By Our Reporter
Tribhuvan International Airport, the only international airport in Nepal, has become congested for the smooth landing and taking off of planes. A minor incident on the runway will result in the complete closure of services for hours. The airport remained closed for 14 hours on Thursday and Friday after an aircraft of the Malindo Air skidded off at the runway.
The plane had reached the grassy land when the pilots applied brakes to stop it just seconds before it was to take off.  Consequently, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) was forced to halt operation of international flights from Thursday night to Friday afternoon.
The aircraft suddenly skidded off the runway and slid 40 meters before getting stuck into a grassy field at Koteshwor section as it was about to take off for Kuala Lumpur.
The incident happened at 10:7 pm Thursday. There were 139 people including crew members on board at the time of the frightening incident. However, the passengers and the crew were unhurt in the incident.
The aircraft was pulled away from the site to reopen the international flights the next afternoon.
Hundreds of passengers were stranded due to the closure of the airport.
Obviously, the incident calls for the rapid construction of the proposed international airport in Nijgadh of Bara so that the planes arriving to Nepal do not have to diverted to Dhaka and Lucknow and the passengers do have to undergo ordeal.
