No unification, helms men to decide

Kathmandu, April 17: The much hyped merger of  the two largest communist parties has been stalled for the time being. The meeting of the party unity coordination committee of the CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Center) held today was unable to sort out the contentious issues further delaying the unification. The meeting has entrusted the responsibility of finalising the outstanding issues of the unification to the UML Chair KP Sharma Oli and Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

The meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar this delegated responsibility to the two party chairmen. Maoist Center leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the next meeting of the committee will determine the date for the unification of the two parties. Both parties could not reach an agreement as Maoist demanded equal status in the central committee while CPN-UML rejected it.
