The two paths towards prosperity!

By PR Pradhan
pushpa-columnEvery year, we used to celebrate the birth anniversary of King Prithivi Narayan Shah the Great as the National Unity Day on 27 Pous until 2005. In 2006, the then home minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, in the government led by Girija Prasad Koirala, to please his foreign bosses and the Maoist leaders, had suddenly cancelled this celebration of the Day as a national festival. The national holiday on this day was also cancelled by adding many unnecessary holidays by converting “new” Nepal as the country of holidays! Such a decision was condemned by all the Nepali people. But the government never listened to the public voice. However, every year, patriotic people continued observing the festival on their own.
The then RPP Nepal and now RPP and different other groups had continuously fought for recognizing of the birth anniversary of the Great king as the National Unity Day. Finally, after 11 years of struggle, the patriotic people have become successful in recognizing the Day as the national day. Hats off to President Vidya Bhandary and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba who attended the official function organised to mark the birth anniversary of Great King Prithivi and National Unity Day. They have gained new heights as they have won high respect of the patriotic people. Indeed, credit goes to the RPP ministers who were able to restore the national day, which was expelled through a foreign conspiracy. The history will evaluate the role of Girija Koirala and Krishna Shitaula as traitors.
In the history of Nepal, two legendary leaders appeared. One was Great King Prithivi and another was King Mahendra. At a time when British imperialists were expanding their colony around India and China, Great King Prithivi unified modern Nepal and introduced appropriate policies for Nepal’s prosperity. They are comprised in the Divine Counsels. This Divine Counsels can be compared as Chanakya’s doctrine in India and Confucius’ philosophy in China. Still China follows Confucius’ philosophy and today’s China adopted “socialism with Chinese characteristics” to some extent, and this is based on Confucius’ philosophy.
King Mahendra is another leader who gave the proper shape to the geography, economy, administration and development of modern Nepal at a time when Nepal was considered as an India-protected nation. Not to forget, Indian currency was in circulation within Nepal and King Mahendra replaced it by our own currency. In other words, King Mahendra initiated Nepal’s cultural unification and laid foundation of modernization of the traditional Nepal. King Mahendra introduced the political system of class coordination when Karl Marx had believed on class conflict. The then panchayt system was based on socialism with Nepali characteristic as like Chinese President Xi introduced socialism with Chinese characteristic. Nepal lost her fundamental identity due to our political leaders who were seen happy when Nepal had become the playground of foreigners and they felt pride while becoming the foreign puppets.
As a result of rampant foreign intervention, we witnessed a decade long bloody conflict in which above 17 thousand innocent Nepali people were killed. Still today, conflict has not been ended as we are practicing political system which is not adjustable in Nepal. King Mahendra, after a detailed survey and study, had introduced administrative mechanism of 75 districts, 14 zones and five regions, which remained non-controversial for decades as many experts in their field were involved in developing such a mechanism. Today, through the political mindset, the administrative mechanism has been introduced, which is non-scientific and non-functional as well. Until now, the government has not been able to locate the capitals of the provinces. Always, we had predicted that federalism in Nepal, a tiny country was not suitable. Even if Nepal goes to the federal structure, we had suggested for adopting three provinces or recognizing the existing five regions as provinces. But political leaders like Baburam Bhattarai talked of 14 or so provinces in Nepal. Now, the issue of province capitals may invite another bloody conflict in Nepal.
Instead of looking after national issues through a nationalistic point of view, our leaders, who have sold their souls for a few hundred thousand Euros, have introduced conflict instead of prosperity and harmony among the people. In today’s transparent era, who is who, we all are aware and thus height of two patriotic leaders — Great King Prithivi and King Mahendra — are continuously gaining height at the time when the political leaders have become foreign slaves.
