Amar GurungNoted musician Ambar Gurung, 79, passed away on Tuesday morning at around 2.37 am while undergoing treatment at the Grande Hospital. Earlier, doctors at the hospital had reported that his health condition was critical.
On Monday afternoon, the so-called reputed Online, ekantipur reported that Gurung was dead when he was still alive. More interestingly, the Indian Embassy, on the basis of the ekantipur report, issued a condolence message on Monday.
Later the concern Online portal had regretted.
This is an example of irresponsible journalism that existed in this country and also negligence of the Indian mission to rush in issuing condolence message without confirming the report.
Be that as it may, demise of noted patriotic musician Gurung is an irreparable loss to the nation.
Gurung had penned and had also given music and vocal on many patriotic songs including “Rato Ra Chandra Surya, Jangi Nishan Hamro” for the Nepal Army. Evergreen song “Naulakhe Tara Udaya” penned by Agam Singh Giri gave Gurung a new height as a musician and a singer.
Gurung also gave music to the new Nepali national anthem “Sayaun thunga phool ka hami, yeutai mala Nepali.”
Gurung, born in Darjeeling, was called by King Mahendra to serve the motherland. After Gurung came to Nepal, the King directly assigned him as the music director of the Royal Nepal Academy.
